John A. Soderquist, Ph.D.
Dr. John A. Soderquist is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico and is an internationally recognized thought leader and pioneer in synthetic organic chemistry. Dr. Soderquist brings to NovaBay extensive experience in modern synthetic methodologies utilizing boron, silicon and other Main Group organometallic reagents.
Prior to his position at the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Soderquist was professor and chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Soderquist has earned nine distinguished research awards while at USF and the University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Soderquist also served as a Manager of Laboratories at Sigma-Aldrich Chemicals, Inc. His reagents were recently selected by Sigma-Aldrich to bear his name and to be sold through the company’s catalog, a significant accolade for Dr. Soderquist. He has served as a technical consultant for several chemical companies including BASF Inorganics, where he is currently an advisor in boron science.
Dr. Soderquist is the author of more than 130 research articles and four book chapters. He has made over 380 scientific presentations around the world. His work has been highlighted in the American Chemical Society publication Noteworthy Chemistry, as well as in the prestigious journal Angewandte Chemie. Dr. Soderquist was also the recipient of the 2000 “Boron USA Award for Distinguished Accomplishment in Boron Science”. He serves on the executive committees for meetings of both the Boron in the Americas and IMEBORON.
Dr. Soderquist received his Ph.D. in 1977 from the University of Colorado and did post-doctoral studies from 1977–1979 with Nobel laureate Dr. H.C. Brown at Purdue University.
